A Parent's Guide to Child Vaccination Schedule in India

Vaccinations are one of the most important things you can do for your child's health. India's Universal Immunization Programme provides free vaccines at government hospitals, but many parents miss doses or are unsure about the schedule.

Birth vaccines

  • BCG (Tuberculosis)
  • OPV-0 (Oral Polio Vaccine)
  • Hepatitis B — Birth dose

6 weeks to 14 weeks

  • DTwP/DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) — 3 doses
  • IPV (Injectable Polio Vaccine) — 3 doses
  • Hepatitis B — 2nd & 3rd dose
  • Hib (Haemophilus influenzae) — 3 doses
  • Rotavirus — 3 doses
  • PCV (Pneumococcal) — 3 doses

9 months to 12 months

  • Measles/MMR — 1st dose
  • Hepatitis A — 1st dose

15 months to 18 months

  • MMR — 2nd dose
  • DTP Booster
  • IPV Booster

What if you miss a dose?

Don't panic. Missed doses can usually be caught up. Consult your pediatrician to create an adjusted schedule. The important thing is to resume vaccination as soon as possible.

Common concerns

Mild fever and soreness at the injection site are normal after vaccination. These usually resolve within 1–2 days. Serious side effects are extremely rare.

If you have questions about your child's vaccination schedule, you can consult a pediatrician on Saahayak without leaving home.
